COT Positioning Extremes
Spot historically stretched futures positions. Compare 3-, 5-, and 10-year context, persistence, and exposure.
Where positioning is most stretched
Extreme means the upper or lower end of a trader group's own historical net-position range — not a price forecast.

Quick read: Bar colors indicate lower (blue, ≤20), middle (slate), or upper (rose, ≥80) positioning within each group's own historical range—not expected price direction. A range index of 100 marks the highest net position in the selected historical window, not necessarily a net-long position. New crossings and extreme duration follow the chosen horizon. Select Analyze for current net, weekly Long/Short changes, driver breakdown and open-interest context.
Methodology & Limitations
CFTC Futures Only, derived from already validated Market Clues COT Explorer releases. Observation date differs from public release date. Each market's results are compared with its own history, not with raw contract counts from unrelated futures. 3Y/5Y/10Y are trailing 156/260/520 observations of net positioning. The historical percentile is a tied-midrank of current net exposure across the same trailing window (including the current report); it is not a tail probability. An upper-range index does not necessarily mean the group is net long, and a lower-range index does not necessarily mean net short. The 3Y net/OI rank uses historical net positions scaled by that observation's open interest. Weeks with data gaps are not treated as regular weekly changes. Disaggregated, Legacy and TFF are different reporting frameworks; group rows are not independent investment signals. Long/short data exclude separately reported spreading positions for applicable categories. The new driver breakdown reports contributions of changes in outstanding long and short positions (not transaction volume or trader motives), using percentages of absolute gross leg changes when those legs offset. Trader counts, concentration ratios and detailed spreading amounts are not currently present in the Explorer payload and are not inferred here. No signals or investment advice. This is a dated research snapshot, not a live market feed.
